To support the UK’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, the Department for Work and Pensions has launched a new £500 million fund to help vulnerable households meet daily needs over the winter. The Household Support Fund will help those most in need via small grants to afford basic essentials such as food, clothing and utilities.
In England, the fund will be distributed by councils, and the money will be made available to local authorities in October 2021. Councils will define eligibility criteria, the application process, as well as what the money can be spent on. The devolved administrations will receive up to £79 million in funding and will decide how the additional funding will be allocated.
